Help us make a difference!!
A handful of volunteers who were already experienced in cat rescue work had a vision. Their vision was to bring homeless cats and kittens into a home environment as temporary shelter where they could be medicated, socialized, and later adopted into loving family homes. On June 28, 2001, Delmarva Cat Connection, Inc., was founded on that principle. These volunteers, along with others who joined shortly thereafter, opened their homes to the stray and abandoned cats and kittens to get them off the streets.
Delmarva Cat Connection, Inc. is an all volunteer501(c)3 corporation dedicated to educating the public, creating awareness and promoting the sterilization, vaccination, fostering and adoption of stray cats on the eastern shores of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. We find it beneficial for the cats to get the care and nurturing they deserve in a loving environment surrounded by people, children and other pets. This helps to make a smoother transition when adjusting to their permanent homes.
Many of the cats and kittens arrive in our foster homes in poor physical health due to parasites such as fleas, ticks, and worms and are often sick with upper respiratory infections, ringworm, or diarrhea. In some cases, they are only days or weeks old without a mother cat in sight and must be bottle fed every few hours around the clock. Our dedicated foster parents bring them into their homes, clean them, warm them, feed them and treat them for parasites and illnesses. Once they are brought back to good health, they are given distemper shots and rabies shots, tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immune Deficiency, spayed or neutered and placed for adoption. Our cats are never put down unless medically necessary! Our cats and kittens are available daily to meet potential adoptive families in the adoption center at PetSmart in Salisbury, Maryland.
Since our humble beginning we have grown by leaps and bounds, and the word is out on the Delmarva Peninsula! In recent years, we have been averaging nearly 200 adoptions per year into loving homes. We take in as many homeless cats and kittens as our resources allow, trying not to turn any away, but our telephone line rings endlessly with calls requesting help. Our veterinary expenses including testing, vaccines, surgery, and medications, as well as our on-going foster care expenses have skyrocketed, and at times place a real strain on our budget. It breaks our hearts to have to turn away cats that need our help, knowing their options are truly limited.
Your support is critical to our ongoing efforts. We are pleading for your help to allow us to continue this much needed effort. We do not receive any state or federal funding but operate solely on our fund-raising efforts and donations from concerned people who believe in what we do. Your donations are tax deductible, and all donations go towards the welfare of our feline friends. You may support our efforts with a donation made through PayPal directly from the home page of this website. We appreciate any support you can give us in our endeavor to reduce the homeless cat population. We are always looking for volunteers to help foster cats, maintain the cleanliness of our adoption center at PetSmart, and staff our awareness and fundraising events. If we all do a little, we can get much accomplished.
Thank you for your consideration,
Delmarva Cat Connection, Inc.
